How do you use Social Media to to motivate a large group of people to act? No one has figured this out better than campaign managers in recent elections.

Coming off of an election that had the whole nation focused on Virginia, the Social Media Club of Richmond has invited the gubernatorial campaign managers and other political analysts to discuss the role social media played in this election.


Moderated by NBC12's Ryan Nobles, panelists will dicuss the role Social Meida has played in the past and how it will continue to shape elections in the future.


Politician in general and politicians running for office specifically are using Social Media to really move large groups of people to take action and become invovled. While many of us use Social media in our daily lives, these guys have really figured out the right kind of communications and messaging to connect with people.


 Our Panelists:

  • Tucker Martin communications director of the McDonnell campaign
  • Jared Leopold the press secretary for Creigh Deeds
  • Jason Kenney
  • Waldo Jaquith
  • Gary Reinhardt - Independent candidate for VA's 63 district

The event will be held at the Science Museum of Virginia in the Eureka Theater on the 3rd floor with a reception. Light hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine will be served.Liquor cash bar is also available.

Registration and Networking begins at 6:00 pm

The panel discussion begins at 7:00pm

A reception will follow and will go on until 9:00pm

Some background on our panelists:

 

Jason Kenney

Jason Kenney is the director of RedStormPAC (www.redstormpac.org), an organization developed to provide social media advising and tools for Republican political candidates in Virginia.  He writes for BearingDrift.com, a news website covering Virginia and national politics and has been running his personal blog, J's Notes.com, since 2001.

 

Waldo Jaquith

Waldo Jaquith is a graduate of Virginia Tech and the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership Program. In 2007 he launched Richmond Sunlight, a website that demystifies the workings of the Virginia General Assembly, providing full daily session video for both the House and the Senate. He works as the web editor for The Virginia Quarterly

 Review at the University of Virginia and is a member of the Virginia Coalition for Open Government board of directors. He has been blogging since 1996.

 

Gary R. Reinhardt

Gary Reinhardt ran as an Independent for the House of Delegates in the 65th District, consisting of Powhatan County and western Chesterfield County.
